Great housing stock, highly regarded schools, beauty and charm - we think Tunbridge Wells is a great place to live but according to a recent survey by the Office of National Statistics (ONS), Tunbridge Wells was found to be the third most unhappy place in the country to live…

With our beautiful office in the heart of the town, we are honoured to call Tunbridge Wells home and, contrary to the ONS report, love all that the town has to offer!

Why?

  1. Beautiful range of properties

From the quirky residential properties in the village area of the town, the grand architecture of the mansions on Nevill Park, to the attractive modern developments in the surrounding areas of the town, there really is something to suit all tastes – and certainly plenty of stunning examples of period architecture.

  1. Great for eating out

With so many wonderful restaurants and quaint pubs, Tunbridge Wells offers a great variety of dining options that will satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. Some of the Maddisons teams’ favourite spots are The Shuffle House, Bocca Social, The Ragged Trousers and The Warren – they won’t disappoint!

  1. Excellent schools

The wide selection of highly rated primary and secondary (both state and private) schools in Tunbridge Wells draws many to settle in the town, as it makes it the perfect destination to start a family. Tunbridge Wells also offers three excellent grammar schools, Skinners School, Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar and Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys.

  1. Range of shops

We might not have an Oxford Street but over the years many Londoners have flocked to Tunbridge Wells for its vast selection of boutique shops. The High Street, The Pantiles and Camden Road offers a real mix of well-known brands and trendy independent stores while the Royal Victoria Place is perfect for your everyday essentials. The St Johns Quarter is also bursting with local shops and eateries.

  1. Outdoor space

Tunbridge Wells is famed for its outdoor space in the High Weald AONB, so if you like your fresh air and great walks, there’s plenty on offer. The town’s Common and parks are beautiful and one of the best for a summer’s day is Dunorlan Park with its picturesque boating lake.

  1. Great transport links

Tunbridge Wells Station offers a regular service to London Charing Cross within an hour, making it an excellent link for both daily commutes and weekend daytrips. For those looking for a little fresh sea air, the train station also runs frequent services to Hastings, stopping at several towns and villages enroute.

  1. Music events

Tunbridge Wells plays host to a number of fun-filled music events throughout the year:

  • Jazz on the Pantiles A hugely popular event that takes place in the heart of the town. Every Thursday evening throughout the summer, The Pantiles is filled with jazz music and dancing – the perfect way to get you into the summer mood.
  • Pub in the Park Run by Tom Kerridge in Dunorlan Park, this music and food festival celebrates everything there is to love about the glorious British pub - delicious food, award-winning chefs, chart-topping music and great drinks.
  • The Forum An independent music venue in Tunbridge Wells that oozes character and charm. It hosts a variety of music events all year round which caters to all music tastes and ages.
  1. Theatre Productions

From Christmas Pantomimes and comedy shows to plays, musicals and cinema, the Trinity Arts Centre and Assembly Hall Theatre has something all year round for everyone to enjoy.

  1. Activities for the family

There are plenty of activities to keep your little ones entertained from a trip on a steam train on the Spa Valley Railway to cracking the clues in the escape room in the St Johns Quarter. Or why not get creative and make some of your own chocolate treats at Temper Temper.

  1. The historic Pantiles

With some of the buildings dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries and the famous Chalybeate Spring, we are incredibly lucky to have our office in such a beautiful and historic location. It is home to a variety of independent shops, cafés, restaurants hosts regular events from Jazz on The Pantiles, food festivals and fortnightly Farmers’ Market.  There really is something for everyone!

Do we agree with the Office of National Statistics report? Definitely not! We will never take for granted all that our wonderful town continues to deliver: it really does offer beauty, charm and a fabulous sense of community.
