Great schools, desirable houses and a variety of independent shops and cafes are just some of the reasons why we love the St Johns area. Below we share everything you need to know about this popular family centred neighbourhood, to the north of Tunbridge Wells.
What St Johns has to offer:
- Great Schools
St Johns is the hub for most of the schools in the town which makes it desirable for families with children. The area is home to St John’s Primary School, St Augustine’s Catholic Primary School and The Wells Free School, as well as several nursery schools for pre-school aged children. It’s also home to five secondary schools: Bennett Memorial Diocesan School and St Gregory’s Catholic School , both co-educational church schools, with Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar, The Skinners School and Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys offering single sex grammar options. All are well positioned for access to the A21 and High Brooms train station and if you live in the area, your child will likely be able to walk to school!
- Green spaces
St Johns Park has a lot to offer from an enclosed play area, tennis courts, a small football and basketball court and a skatepark. The park also leads out to a woodland walk through Hurst Woods that connects to Rusthall and Speldhurst. On the other boundary of the area, it’s a short walk to the Ridgeway in Southborough, which is popular with dog walkers and has far-reaching views out to the hills beyond Tonbridge.
- A choice of restaurants
When it comes to restaurants in the St Johns area you are spoilt for choice, with a good variety of restaurants and lovely pubs; there is something for everyone!
Some of our favourites are: The Shuffle House (fabulous tapas and pizza) The Hidden Well (Asian) St Johns Yard (burger central!) Junahki (delicious Indian food) and the Tiger Tavern (great tacos).
There are also several places to grab a takeaway, including fish and chips at The St Johns Fish Bar.
