The first half term of the year promises to bring lots to do in and around Tunbridge Wells for all the family. It’s one of the reasons why we love our town, as it offers a diverse number of activities to keep families of all ages entertained. In addition to Valentine’s Day on 14th February, where you can find plenty of wonderful places to dine in throughout the town, here are some of the events and activities that caught our eye for the half term week:

  1. The Winter Lantern Parade

Starting from the Calverley Precinct at 5:30pm, this colourful procession organised by local volunteers since 2019, will be happening on 10th February. This event is a fun for younger children and adults alike. You can grab lantern kits on sale at local Tunbridge Wells stockists – Cook, Manic Ceramix, M. Saltmarsh and Whirligig Toys. Last year, lanterns ranged from frogs to a giant seahorse - we wonder what we’ll be wowed with this year!

  1. Watch the teen edition of the musical, SIX

Adapted from the international smash hit, SIX, this both educational and entertaining performance is being put on by The Trinity Theatre and is running from 16th to 18th February, at The Thomson Theatre at The Skinners’ School. Inspired by the six wives of Henry VIII, the production puts a pop twist on their stories. It is recommended for age 8+.

  1. Get creative at Arty Farty, Southborough

Get ready to sport some skull and cross bones, Arty Farty are putting on five pirate themed art workshops, one on each day of this half term, involving junk modelling and abstract art. Suitable for children either age 6 or 7+, depending on the workshop, the events are still available to book.

  1. Jump aboard the Magic Express on the Spa Valley Railway

For the family, a journey full of fun, comedy, magic and special treats is promised by the Magic Express, a two hour experience starting at Tunbridge Wells West Station and following the Spa Valley train on a real steam train. Two performances are available to chose from on 15th February, so book early to avoid disappointment.

  1. Brace yourselves for a spine-chilling adventure

For those with teenagers, BAIT Immersive Horror Experience, running from 10th  to 18th February at the Assembly Halls, promises a ‘horror experience like no other!’ This terrifying escape room is already selling out, so act quickly if you want to secure tickets for this one!

  1. The Hendy Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon

Cheer on the runners at this year’s Hendy Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon on 18thFebruary, an event our very own James Richards, Partner of Maddisons Residential ran in last year. Be wary of road closures while the event is taking place and find out more information on where to support the runners around the course on their website.

  1. Celebrate Pancake Day

With pancake day on 13th February, get your kids involved in the kitchen and make your very own homemade pancakes or treat yourselves to some pancakes in one of the lovely cafes and restaurants in the town. Try our neighbours down on The Pantiles, Eggs Eleven, or for a deluxe experience, The Ivy, on The High Street also serves pancakes.

Of course, Tunbridge Wells has lots of parks and the beautiful Common to enjoy at no cost, to play hide and seek, sports, climb on The Wellington Rocks or walk the dog.
